Product Description The Wiggles and friends sing about food and friends in a variety of songs.
Amazon.com For the non-Australians out there, the Wiggles are a quartet of male songbirds reminiscent of the Monkees, but aimed at the Barney-watching set. The Down Under foursome sings about mashed bananas and hot potatoes, dances with the energy of fitness instructors, and makes mild attempts at being educational. (Three of the four met while studying early childhood education.) Their stab at multiculturalism results in the Jewish song "Havenu Shalom Alachem." Joining them are a big green dinosaur named Dorothy (seem familiar?), Henry the giant purple octopus, Wags the Dog, and a man in a pirate suit called Captain Feathersword. The songs are catchy, the dancing vigorous, and the outfits colorful approximations of the uniforms worn by the original crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. A couple of the haircuts look like they might have been acquired on the spaceship as well. The 15-song video runs 33 minutes long and claims to be appropriate for ages 1-8, but will most likely appeal to preschoolers and kindergartners. --Kimberly Heinrichs

The Wiggles...Yummy, Yummy for Mummy too! January 28, 2000 Rikki & Skyla Matich (Australia) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
This is yet another quality product from Australia's favourite kid's band, The Wiggles. Both my 19 month old and I are avid fans of all of their video and audio cassettes. A favourite for the car and fantastic on video!Songs are simple, fun and encourage children to enjoy dancing as well as singing along. Appearances by Waggs the Dog and Henry the Octopus add to the excellent entertainment that keeps my daughter enthralled.(No easy task for a busy little 19 month old with the world at her feet!) Fruit Salad is a great number, teaching about cooking and, more importantly, cleaning up afterwards. The actions are easy for little ones to pick up and good for co-ordination skills whilst the song chorus is easy for little ones to pick up and sing along with. A new character, Chef, makes a special appearance on Yummy Yummy. Those Mums who are Crowded House fans will recognise the familiar face of Crowded House drummer, Paul Hester, joining in the Wiggles fun as Chef. Good on you Paul! Hot Potato, the Wiggles anthem here in Australia, also provides a funny tune that the kids have a great time dancing along to. Once again the actions to this tune are great fun and really encourage kids to get up and get grooving along! The Wiggles really throw themselves into the whole show and it's great to see four men dancing and singing their hearts out.(And obviously enjoying it too!) The Wiggles have saved my sanity and rescued me from the roundabout of children's music that becomes a chore for parents to listen to and enjoy with their children. The Wiggles have introduced us to a world of kids entertainment that is educational and fun that is guaranteed to keep your toes tapping from start to finish! Nor more yawns here, just thumbs up for The Wiggles!
Our daughter loves the Wiggles - Great tapes for toddlers September 25, 2000 John (PHOENIX, AZ USA) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
Our 20 month old daughter is not that interested in many children's videos but she loves the Wiggles. The music and the dancing keep her attention and she likes to imitate the dances and actions. Of the 3 Wiggle videos that are currently available, this tape is their second best. If you're only buying one tape, I'd recommend "Wiggle Time" over this one. "Wake Up Jeff" is our least favorite Wiggles tape- it must have been done much earlier and with a very low budget. The costumes and props are very "cheap" looking. It's OK, but not as good as the others.Although we play this tape a lot, two of the songs are done by the "Wiggles Puppets." These are some of the strangest puppets I've ever seen and they almost have a demonic look about them. If I were a kid they'd give me nightmares. At first, our daughter was a little afraid of them but now she just tolerates them. There's also a magic sketch in each of the Wiggle videos but we usually fast-forward through it. Maybe when she gets older she'll find this to be interesting but it bores her now. Overall, I think that these are wonderful tapes. They hold our daughters interest. The songs and dances are fun for her to watch and she seems to like the Wiggles characters (Jeff, Murray, Anthony and Greg). It's the only tapes that we have she loves to hand to us, then point to the TV (play this one).
great for the younger Wigglers! May 14, 2003 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
We received this video as a gift when my daughter was just a baby. Even then she would bob her little head when she heard the Wiggles sing between shows on Playhouse Disney. Ever since then she's been hooked. She's now 20 months and although she still enjoys this video I must admit that she does prefer others now like Hoop Dee Doo and Toot Toot. This video just doesn't have as much going on as the others, and the songs and dances are very very simple. But I think this is exactly what was so great about it when my daughter was a bit younger. Sometimes kids shows just have so much going on that they just can't follow them. Yummy Yummy is just right for young toddlers in that respect. As far as the songs, they're some of our favorites. I embarrassed to admit it but my husband and I actually love the Pufferbillies song and even do the movements! And what Wiggle's collection would be complete without Fruit Salad? Overall I would say this is a very good video. As far as the puppets go, yes they are a bit weird but have never scared my daughter fortunately. Although they do drive my husband and me bonkers!! Buy this one, you won't be sorry.
lots of fun for your little one February 6, 2000 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I also purchased this tape because of the Barney advertisement. My 20 month old loves this video. We dance to the whole tape, it is fun, and good exercise for both of us. Her favorite song is the "Hammer Song", it is really cute to watch her dance and have such a fun time. We also love the puppets, they do not scare her at all, she even giggles when they appear. I also purchased Wiggle Time. At first I didn't like it, but I have to admit, it kind of grew on me too. Both videos are great. Of the two, Yummy Yummy is the favorie at our house.
The Gold Standard for children's videos February 25, 2001 Paul Minot (Waterville, ME United States) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I love the Wiggles, my wife loves the Wiggles, and most importantly so do my 1 1/2 year-old son and 5 year-old daughter. As a musician myself, the songs are consistently first-rate--catchy, varied, and engagingly performed. The choreography is also excellent--elegantly designed to be both engaging to watch but easy to imitate, and very well performed by both the adults and children. None of the sappy sentimentality or general dimwittedness of Barney, just plain FUN. I don't quite understand the hair-splitting over Yummy Yummy vs. Wiggle Time--our family simply loves both tapes, and we've been watching both of them over and over. I've also been humming the songs at work as well, and more importantly not at all minding that. My daughter admits the puppets are "weird," but we all got over that one, and "Point Your Finger" is an amazingly fun little techno song. In short, these guys have a great thing going, and if you hate other kid-vids you might nonetheless just love the Wiggles.
